On Friday morning in the Rupur area under Kandi police station in Murshidabad, a toto carrying students from a private school overturned after losing control. The accident happened when the driver’s shoes slipped off, and while he was standing to fix them, a student accidentally pressed the accelerator. This caused the vehicle to veer off the road and fall into a roadside ditch.
All passengers on the toto were schoolchildren returning home from school. Local residents immediately jumped into the water and rescued the children from the overturned vehicle. Following the rescue, Kandi Municipality Mayor Jaydev Ghatak and Kandi police station In-Charge Mrinal Sinha arrived at the scene and took the students to a hospital for first aid and medical assessment.
The incident caused concern in the area and prompted quick action from local officials. The children were examined at the hospital, and no information about serious injuries has been reported. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident.
